Very popular with the locals and one of the few "free houses" left in Porthmadog with lower prices than most other local establishments. It has a fine reputation for both the quality and range of beers served, particularly its extra cold lagers, keg bitters and Purple Moose cask ales brewed in Porthmadog.
A traditional bar, opened in 1862, where comfort and original features have been carefully blended together during its restoration in 2009. The central features are the big open fireplace with log fires in winter, the open bar, mural over the bar painted by a local artist, original framed copies of the history of Porthmadog on its walls and Gelert, after whom the bar was named.
It also has Porthmadog's finest range of wines by the glass, carafe or by the bottle and the only establishment which has its own range of house cocktails.
Gelert's is also a Gastro bar serves the same menu as offered in Peppino's but also includes a range of Great British specials, all cooked to order and served during lunchtimes and evenings.
