Rosette In June 2009, the Royal Sportsman was awarded an AA Rosette for its food. ”Simple combinations with the use of first class ingredients combined to produce food worthy of the award of a Rosette. The menu was modern and exciting with so many choices and some favourites being included ..", “A very good morning breakfast as well with a wonderfully fresh smoked
haddock." AA Inspector

It has always been our ambition to make the Hotel's food the best in Porthmadog, using the finest of Welsh sourced food ingredients combined                                   with the skills and experience of our chefs.

Consequently the hotel`s restaurant - Peppino`s - is now included in The Good Food Guide based on readers` recommendations and inspection reports.

Something New’s Cooking in Porthmadog

ChefsHead Chef, Felix Prem, has had considerable multi AA rosette and fine dining experience internationally and in the UK, before joining the Hotel in July 2007. Stefan Draghici joined the team in May 2009 and has added his Romanian and Greek cooking experience to the range of dishes offered.

Building on our success. two further quality Rosette chefs - Ryan Agnew and Francis Gomes - joined them in 2010.

The style of cooking is seasonal Modern British with a south European influence for the more adventurous and also a classic British Fayre, for those who enjoy traditional meals at lunch or in the evening, served in the restaurant, bar, lounge or garden.

Only Welsh supplied produce is used in our kitchen .

Peppino's restaurant is Porthmadog's only dining room, restored in early 2009, with its original wooden floor dating back to 1862 when the hotel was built. It has been modernised for comfort without losing its original features.

Peppino's is an Italian name, which reflects atmosphere, the way customers are looked after and style of cooking.

"Overall an impressive room with its new ontemporary style, particularly the wooden flooring, high backed oak chairs and new fabrics" AA Inspector June 2009.

It is a bright 50-cover restaurant, overlooking the patio garden, for both residents and

non-residents. Children and guide dogs welcome. Located on the ground floor, it has easy access for all guests who have difficulty in walking.

Gelert's Bar

Very popular with the locals and o ne of the few "free houses" left in Porthmadog with lower prices than most other local establishments. It has a fine reputation for both the quality and range of beers served, particularly its extra cold lagers, keg bitters and Purple Moose cask ales brewed in Porthmadog.     (www.purplemoose.co.uk)

A traditional bar, opened in 1862, where comfort and original features have been carefully blended together during its restoration in 2009.

The central features are the big open fireplace, the open bar, mural over the bar painted by a local artist and original framed copies of the history of Porthmadog on its walls.

It also has Porthmadog's finest range of wines by the glass, carafe or by the bottle and the only establishment which has its own range of house cocktails.

Gelert's is also a Gastro bar and its food is probably the best in Porthmadog as it has been awarded an AA Rosette, the only one in Porthmadog. It serves the same menu as offered in Peppino's, Modern British with a European Influence and Traditional Fayre, using only fresh ingredients and all sourced from Welsh suppliers. Meals are all cooked to order and served during lunchtimes and evenings.

Children and dogs welcomed at all times in Gelert's Bar with its original large open fireplace and log fires in winter.

Orchard Patio Garden

From Spring to the Autumn, customers can sit in the Orchard patio garden-once full of apple trees but now with only one remaining in the centre, surrounded by an abundance of flowers and colour. In September, the apples are picked and used to make homemade pies!

It is a lovely sheltered area, which catches the sun and is an ideal place to relax for coffees, drinks and meals from morning till night.

Wheelchair access, prams, buggies and pets are very welcome.
