A friendly and warm welcome to you
" Not only does it have wonderful reviews, a big thumbs up from Bill Bryson and a new AA Rosette, it also goes out of its way to cater for people with special dietary needs...After 26 years as a vegetarian, my husband has eaten many nut roasts, but without a doubt, this one was the best he had ever eaten. My red onion and mozzarella tart was absolutely delicious. Both sweets were lip smacking gorgeous. Food art the Royal Sportsman's excellent and exciting and the service first class." Patti Bright -Food writer for the Daily Post- August 29th 2009

"The Service levels at this hotel are really very good... The food was the highlight of my stay. Simple combinations with the use of first class ingredients, combined to produce food worthy of the award of a Rosette.. Standards of Housekeeping were impressive throughout ....and the staff are a credit to the hotel, customer focused with good customer care skills...." AA Senior Hotel & Restaurant Inspector- June 2009.

"It was the friendliness of the staff and the patrons in the bar which made our stay special with everyone willing to chat and advise on what to do.

The owners have brought customer service to the fore..Even Gelert their rescue collie is there to greet you. It's this that shines through when you stay at the Royal Sportsman"
Andrew Mosley, Bolton Evening News November 2008

"It may not be to everybody’s taste, but personally I say “thank God” for hotels like the Royal Sportsman.

They have heart. They have soul...and the hotel’s 28 rooms are a good size, spotlessly clean and comfortable....the service throughout first class.

Certainly the food we tried was top-notch. The pan-seared scallops got 10 out of 10 "
Maria Breslin, Liverpool Echo, 2008

"Our base.... was the Royal Sportsman Hotel, centrally situated in Porthmadog, the perfect place to stay; friendly staff, fantastic food all sourced locally, great real ale from the local Purple Moose brewery and, most importantly, we could take the dog. In fact, he received an equally warm welcome, being greeted with a bowl of water and the offer of being taken for a walk by a member of staff should we want to leave him in the hotel – perish the thought!"
Gillian Gray-Lancashire Evening Post, 2008

"The meals alone would make the drive north to the Royal Sportsman worth while…a first class menu served by the friendliest staff you'll meet anywhere"
Liz Keene, South Wales Echo- November 2007
"The Royal Sportsman continues to provide a very good standard of accommodation...the quality of the upgraded bedrooms and public areas are to be commended. Special mention for the levels of service and hospitality at this hotel from the staff...They were excellent in their approach and friendliness"
Visit Wales Inspector's visit and quality report-September 2008

The Royal Sportsman is a very comfortable hands-on, family owned and managed, full service hotel with real value for money, old fashioned but very friendly service and hospitality at the heart of its business. The hotel reflects our personality and we believe that personality makes this hotel different from many others. Its strong European and Mediterranean culture influences how we look after our customers, in an informal yet professional manner. It is a very personal service where we try to exceed expectations and go the extra mile for customers, to ensure that they more than enjoy their stay here..

Customers regularly describe this family atmosphere as being "home from home' with character, the best breakfast and finest food in town, great service and very comfortable, spotlessly clean rooms... And in the bar, wonderful local Purple Moose real ale!.

Gelert at home in the hotel's reception

A
s a family friendly hotel, babies to teenagers are more than welcome here and can also include pets in your stay. Gelert, our battered rescue thorough bred sheep dog is often found in reception waiting to greet customers as well.

The hotel has also developed its own distinctive style of cooking using only fresh local Welsh ingredients. Imaginative food for both adults and children, well cooked and presented, is another important part of our culture.

Located at the beginning and quieter part of the High Street in Porthmadog, the Hotel is central to the harbour, Ffestiniog & West Highland railways and all shops which are within about five or six minutes walking distance.
